Course Descriptions
General Information: Students may enroll in AFJROTC during their 9th, 10th, 11th and/or 12th grade year. Students may earn a total of 1 credit per year. ROTC cadets may elect to receive PE or elective credit.
This academic year we are offering the following courses:
Leadership Education (LE 300) – Life Skills and Career Opportunities
Life Skills and Career Opportunities provides an essential component of leadership
education for today’s high school students. This book, and the course it is designed
for, will prepare you for life after high school in the high-tech, globally oriented,
and diverse workplace of the 21st century.
Aerospace Science (AS 300) – Exploration of Space:
The textbook will begin with early astronomy
and the basic interest in the universe from the Greeks through the Renaissance and
Enlightenment ages. Students will be provided an in-depth view of the solar system,
including Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and planets. The text also discussed the history
of space travel and more modern space probes and robotics. Students will examine the
effects of space on the human body. The text also investigates the history of rockets,
launch vehicles, and the coordinated systems required for a successful launch into
space. Finally, the text will offer a cybersecurity chapter that outlines the importance of
cybersecurity in space and in daily life.
College Prep: Cadets have the opportunity to prepare for and schedule college entrance exams. They will learn the importance of maintaining an up-to-date resume, ask teachers for recommendation, complete scholarship applications and apply for college. The will also visit several colleges and universities throughout the school year.
Military Drill and Ceremonies: Cadets will learn how to follow verbal instructions with snap and precision.
Wellness Program: This is an official and integral [art of the AFJROTC program. It consists of two exercise programs focused upon individual base line improvements with he goal of achieving a national standard as calculated b age and gender. The objective is to motivate cadets to lead active, healthy lifestyles beyond program requirements and into their adult live.
Leadership Education 400 - Principles of Management: This course provides exposure to the fundamentals of management. It equips cadets with the qualities needed to serve in leadership position to manage the corps and in the working world.
Aerospace Science 410 - Survival and Return: This course is a synthesis of the basic survival information found in Air Force Regulation 64-4 Survival Training. The survival instruction will provide training in skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to successfully perform fundamental tasks needed for survival. Survival also presents “good to know” information that would be useful in any situation. The information is just as useful to an individual lost hunting or stranded in a snowstorm.
The Following Courses will be offered IAW with the 7 year Curriculum Plan:
Leadership Education 100 - Citizenship, Character & Air Force Tradition: This course introduces cadets to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program providing a basis for progression through the rest of the AFJROTC program while instilling elements of good citizenship. We will cover sections on cadet and Air Force organizational structure; uniform wear; customs, courtesies, and other military traditions well as health and wellness and fitness.
Leadership Education 200 - Communications, Awareness, and Leadership. This book stresses communications skills and cadet corps activities. Much information is provided on communicating effectively, understanding groups and teams, preparing for leadership, solving conflicts and problems, and personal development.
Leadership Education 300 - Life Skills and Career Opportunities provides an essential component of leadership education for today’s high school students. This course it is designed to prepare students for life after high school in the high-tech, globally oriented, and diverse workplace of the 21st century. Students will learn how to become a more confident financial planner and to save, invest, and spend money wisely, as well as how to avoid the credit trap.
