National Honor Society Induction Requirements
The National Honor Society at C. E. King High School conducts an Open Window Invitation period each fall and spring. Students must have at least a 4.5-grade point average on a 6.0 scale or a 3.5-grade point average on a 5 point scale, character, leadership positions, as well as voluntary service hours to be considered for an induction invitation.
Freshmen are not eligible as they begin to earn a high school GPA. Sophomores and juniors are eligible to submit completed information packets during the fall and/or spring windows. Seniors are only allowed to submit packets during the fall window which gives the seniors time to participate in chapter activities prior to graduation. Each open window concludes with eligible students offered an invitation to the induction ceremony.
A Faculty Council of five teachers and counselors meets with the non-voting sponsor to evaluate each information packet with an eligible GPA. A rubric is used to equally evaluate all packets. The Faculty Council decision is delivered to every applicant in a sealed envelope within a timely manner. To complete the process, an induction ceremony is scheduled for the selected inductees and their families and friends.
