Since 2007, I’ve been molding and influencing young scholars’ minds. I’ve had an opportunity to encourage students to use their imagination through context clues and inferences in secondary English Language Arts. I then further challenged myself by accepting a position in Special Education. During my time in Special Education I was an ELA Co-Teacher, ELA Resource Teacher, and I spearheaded a program that assisted students with Autism in becoming self-sufficient. My goal was always to promote a student’s self-esteem and to empower a student to use his/ her strengths to his/ her best benefit.
Now, as a School Counselor, my goal is to make the students that I counsel trust my concern for their well-being and understand that they are valuable, vital, and unique individuals. By focusing on a student’s strengths and successes, I encourage each student that I counsel to recognize their potential, believe in self-worth, and move forward with self-confidence and positivity.
Teaching and counseling have the same goal--the best possible future for each and every student. I believe that both professions are laudable and worthy. Therefore, I am proud to have called myself a teacher, and now, I am proud to call myself a School Counselor.
My degrees and certifications include: Bachelor of Science in Health with n a minor in Psychology from Prairie View A & M University and a Master in Education in School Counseling from Houston Baptist University. My certifications include Special Education EC-12 and School Counselor EC-12. Additionally, I am an Air Force Veteran and a cool mom!
