Welcome and thank you for visiting the KHS S.T.E.A.M Guidance and Counseling page. My name is Melanie Jones and I am serving as the S.T.E.A.M. Academy Counselor. I am happily married of 16 years to Coach C. Jones and we have two handsome young men, Corinthian and Colby. As the S.T.E.A.M. Counselor, I am dedicated to all students’ academic achievement, personal and social development, and college and career readiness. My ultimate goal is graduation for our students; however, I also want our students to become law abiding citizens as well. No Excuses!
It is such an honor to be back home in Sheldon ISD serving my community. I am a proud product of SISD as I attended Monahan Elementary (3rd and 4th), Sheldon Intermediate (5th and 6th), C.E. King Middle (7th and 8th) and graduated in the top 10% of the AMAZING class of 1999 from C.E. King High School, Home of the Mighty Panthers! My college career started out at the University of Houston Central Campus. Due to life changing events, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in 2006 and my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2007, both from the University of Phoenix . In 2009, I started my teaching career, and in 2010 I was fully certified as a business education teacher in Sheldon ISD. The Opportunity Academy Program was my first project as a teacher. This program serviced students who failed two or more classes freshman year. The goal was not to only get those students caught up on 9th grade classes, but also provide mentorship to successfully complete their 10th grade classes simultaneously. Failure was not a component we accepted! My students learned to push through anything life threw in their path. They knew that Mrs. Jones was going to hold them accountable, but would jump in the fire with them, if needed. We took lemons and made lemonade daily! I expected greatness even on their worst day. At the end of the year, all my students were either on track for graduation or not too far behind. My greatest reward in my educational career thus far was witnessing ALL of my students walk across the stage at graduation. During the six years between KASE and KHS, while working in the Opportunity Academy, I started the School Counseling certification program with Region IV. In 2015, I earned my School Counseling certification and started my school counseling career in Houston ISD at Phillis Wheatley High School. In 2016, I returned to Sheldon ISD as a school counselor at KMS. I enjoyed my time in middle school; however, I knew that my return to KHS would be home.
In closing, I challenge my Sheldon community to get involved in our schools and support our students, staff and administrators. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. GO PANTHERS!!!!!
