Donna Maisel
My name is Donna Maisel, and I am the At-Risk Specialist and School Social Worker at C.E. King High School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology from Louisiana State University and my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Washington, Tacoma. I have worked in public school as a school social worker in both Washington State and Florida, and I have years of experience working with children in foster care, adolescents on probation, and teenagers in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
I have chosen school social work as my career because I love working with teenagers! I greatly value education, but I understand that when students are struggling with family dynamics, social problems, and emotional issues, their academic performance may be a challenge. I use a trauma-informed approach in working with students. We learn coping skills, communication skills, and emotional or behavior regulation skills in our time together. I provide support on either a long-term or short-term basis depending on the student’s needs. I believe wholeheartedly in treating each student with dignity and respect.
I provide individual and group intervention based on our students’ needs. Group topics may range from stress management skills to grief and loss. I can help link students with outside therapy or community agencies, and I can help connect our families with community resources. I provide support to students at our 9th grade center, KHS, ECHS, and KASE. My office is located in the main KHS building. Please contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your students and let me know how I can provide support.
