My name is Donna Maisel, and I am excited to be the At-Risk Specialist at C.E. King High School. I grew up in Louisiana, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology from Louisiana State University. Geaux Tigers! I later earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Washington, Tacoma. I have worked in public school as a school social worker in both Washington State and Florida, and I have years of experience working with children in foster care and adolescents on probation. I am an avid LSU football fan, and I have a daughter, three dogs, and a fish at home who keep me busy. Most of my free time is spent at the gym or with my family.
I have chosen school social work as my career because I love working with adolescents, and I greatly value education. However, I understand that when students are struggling with family dynamics, social problems, and emotional issues, their academic performance may be a challenge. I specialize in providing Trauma Informed care and assistance to students who need support. I help students with coping skills, communication skills, and emotional or behavior regulation skills. I provide support on either a long-term or short-term basis depending on the student’s needs. I believe wholeheartedly in treating each student with dignity and respect.
I provide individual and group intervention based on our students’ needs. Group topics may range from stress management skills to grief and loss. I provide support to students at KHS, Early College, and KASE. Please contact me with any questions or concerns regarding your students and let me know how I can provide support.
